What Is an Agricultural Gearbox?
An agricultural gearbox is a mechanical transmission unit that converts the rotational speed and torque delivered by a tractor’s power take-off (PTO) shaft or engine output into the drive conditions required by field implements, harvesting equipment and auxiliary machinery. Rather than a single design, the term covers a broad family of assemblies — bevel gear sets, planetary reducers, worm gear units and multi-speed combinations — each optimised for a specific load profile and mounting geometry.
Selecting the wrong gearbox for agricultural machinery is a common and costly mistake for procurement teams. A unit that is undersized for peak torque loads will fail prematurely in the field. One that is over-specified adds unnecessary weight, purchase cost and servicing complexity. Our engineering team works with OEM integrators and wholesale distributors to match every application to a verified unit with the correct gear ratio, shaft diameter, torque rating and flange interface.
We manufacture and supply the full range: straight bevel and spiral bevel configurations for directional changes, inline reduction units for speed step-downs, and right angle agricultural gearboxes for implement drives requiring 90-degree power redirection — all built to withstand the shock loads, vibration and contamination exposure typical of agricultural field conditions.
Input Speed
540 rpm and 1000 rpm PTO-standard configurations; custom ratios available on request.
Torque Range
Output torques from 195 Nm on compact units up to 50,000 Nm on heavy-duty assemblies.
Shaft Interfaces
1 3/8" and 1 3/4" spline inputs; keyed or splined output shafts from Ø20 to Ø60 mm.
Flange Mounting
Standard flanges from F07 through F60; ISO 5210 and JB/T 2920 electric drive flanges supported.
How an Agricultural Gearbox Transmits Power
Understanding the mechanical logic behind gearbox operation helps engineers select the right unit and anticipate long-term maintenance requirements.
Power Input via PTO Shaft
The tractor's power take-off shaft delivers mechanical energy at a standardized speed — typically 540 RPM or 1000 RPM as specified under ISO 500-3. This rotating input is connected to the gearbox input shaft via a splined coupling, transferring engine torque directly into the gearbox housing.
Torque Multiplication and Speed Reduction
Inside the housing, the input gear meshes with a larger output gear. The ratio between gear teeth counts determines the speed-to-torque relationship at the output shaft. A lower output speed yields proportionally higher available torque — critical for ground-engaging implements that demand pulling force over rotational speed.
Direction Change — Orthogonal or Parallel
If the input and output shafts are at 90 degrees, spiral bevel gears redirect the drive axis — this is the agricultural right angle gearbox configuration. If shafts are parallel, helical or spur gears maintain axis direction while altering speed and torque. The configuration is matched at the specification stage to the geometry of the driven implement.
Power Delivery to the Implement
The output shaft — sized and splined to match the driven implement — delivers conditioned torque directly to tiller blades, mower decks, augers, spreader discs, or rear axle shafts. Oil bath or grease packing lubricates gear surfaces continuously throughout the operating cycle, maintaining efficiency and extending component life.

Ratio Change / Direction Change / Torque Output
What is the difference between a right angle agricultural gearbox and a standard inline PTO reducer?
An inline reducer keeps input and output shafts on the same axis and reduces speed while multiplying torque. A right angle agricultural gearbox contains a bevel gear set that redirects the output shaft through 90 degrees relative to the input. Right angle units are used wherever the implement’s driven component — a pump, fan, or rotor — is mounted perpendicular to the tractor PTO shaft. The tradeoff is slightly lower mechanical efficiency (typically 88–93% versus 93–96% for an inline helical reducer at equivalent ratio) and higher sensitivity to correct bearing pre-load, since the bevel mesh creates thrust loads in both axial directions simultaneously.

GEARS QUALITY MATERIALS

LUBRICATION
The reducer is usually supplied without lubricant, The recommended quantity of
lubricantis indicated on our catalogue and the first replaced must be done after 50-60
hours of running, then replaced after 600-800 working hours
The emptying of the gearbox should be made immediately after the working, with still oil
hot, in order to avoid the deposition of sludge. Clean the oil plugs. Check frequently the oil
level and top up the oil whenever necessary.
